I current BMW fashion, every coupe has been getting a sedan counterpart thing. Do you think the 2 series gran coupe will ever come to fruition?

I think it will.. and by gods I hope it looks like that. That thing is just fantastic.

I feel like the 2 is too short of a platform for the GC body style to look good.

Of course it will. It's a niche that isn't filled. The Germans simply cannot help themselves in this situation.

I kinda want this to be a thing, now that the 3 series is so big. I would be nice to have a RWD compact sedan to do battle with the CLA and A3

Yeah, I feel like they would have to make it wider for it to look good.

It likely will, but I would probably not expect it until the mid life cycle update of the 2 series. BMW has apparently figured out how to produce additional body styles in a cost effective way, and they need direct competition to the CLA and A3. The current 3 series is quite large; BMW could make a new four door the size of the E36 sedan and it would still be about 8 inches shorter than the current F30.

This will probably be your second car if they make it.
You'll have the ST for at least 4 years before you trade it in or buy it a garage mate. By that time BMW may have improved their EPS and launched this car.

Market. Must. Saturate.

Guaranteed BMW will built a 4 door saloon/ sedan on the F10 platform. Whether it will be a 1 series or a 2 Series GC (or they do both) is another matter.

Yep, an M2 Gran Coupe would be perfect after the ST.

If you get a good job you can keep the ST for AutoX and track duty. Then the M2 Gran Coupe can be the luxury fun car for date nights.
You could even get it with a DCT if you get a job that requires driving in heavy traffic or if you marry an awesome girl who refuses to drive stick. I know an awesome girl should be willing to learn but it's hard enough to find a cool girl so I'm not going to discriminate if she is too scared to learn stick.

These are all great options. I just hope the M2 comes with the DCT and not the 8 spd. I know it's good, but still, slushbox.

Funny cause the old man just told me to "save all the cars" without me bringing it up. He's been driving the E46 and now he likes it more. He was like "Why are you selling it? You'll lose money in the sale. Just keep it.".
Even though cars are depreciating assets we should try to keep them all. That way we build up a tangible group of assets that we can actually see and touch and drive. You could pass on the ST to the next generation.
I hope an actual M2 would be DCT as well. I think it would be. A real M car should only come in stick and DCT no matter how awesome the uber slushbox is.

I think you and your dad should just pool together all of your cars, and just switch off driving all of them.
I agree, M cars are special, they should receive special treatment. That's why I'm disappointed that the M3/4 are using the same inline 6 as all of the non-M cars, just "M-tuned". M cars should have bespoke engines.

Damn you Kinja!
I'll give the short version this time without the full on rant about driving classics in hot ass So Cal
We do have a pool going. Except it's one-way. My Dad takes my cars whenever he wants. But he barely ever lets me drive his modern cars (both cause he's worried about what I'll do to them and cause they're always on the racks, lol. right now TWO of them are on the rack).
He's fine with me taking classic cars. But they're only good for weekend cruises. I can't really commute in them due to CA being 80+ degrees on any given day (even in the winter). You can guess how many problems that causes when you're working without me spelling them all out again.
And I agree - I like bespoke engines too. But I still like some of the other ones too. Just depends on how hard BMW tries to make the base engine special. The E39 and E46 engines were based off existing blocks but BMW did a good job of making them a lot more powerful.

I assume driving a classic car in So Cal is a double-edged sword. You have the fun and exclusivity of driving one, but there are NO modern amenities such as A/C.
Hopefully the M3/4 engine will be similar to the E39/46 engines.

Exactly!! You have dry roads. But they are HOT dry roads most of the time.
I think Santa Barbara is the unicorn city. I went to college there. It's sunny and doesn't rain a ton. And it's always at least 10 degrees cooler than the Anaheim/Orange area I'm in. It's perfect driving weather there for any car about 11 months of the year.
AND there are cool driving roads not far from Santa Barbara. Multiple mountain passes to get over the mountain that separates it from civilization. Or PCH up to Nor Cal via Big Sur. Very cool.
I dunno how awesome the M3/M4 engine will be. Maybe really awesome. Or it might feel like a chip tuned 235i/335i/435i engine. Need to drive it to know.
I was thinking about something the other day - I wonder if the E60 545i with the last N/A V8 and 6MT will be a future collectors item. It's not an M car. But it's pretty fast and fun. And it would sound awesome with after market exhaust.
The last N/A I6 5 Series is the E60 528i and it's kind of slow. The 545i with the stick could be super desirable in the future. It would be like the E60 M5 except way cheaper to maintain.

For some reason I think any E60 except maybe the M5 might become a collectable. People really don't seem to care about them because of the high maintenance costs around the entire engine spectrum.
But I imagine pounding an SMG V10 M5 on the track would be the time of my life.

I hope everyone gives up on the E60 M5. Then I can buy one for $15K.
I would want it in black even though black is boring. Cause that car just works in black. It looks as sinister as it sounds. Never has a fast 4 door German sedan yelled "FUCK YOU ALL GET OUT OF MY WAY OR I WILL EAT YOU" like the black E60 M5 does when it has after market exhaust.
